Sensex gives up early gains
MUMBAI:
The Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index gave up early gains and ended on Wednesday marginally down by nine points at 8308.78, snapping a five-day gaining streak, reacting to heavy selling pressure from domestic funds amid sustained foreign institutional investment inflows.
Driven by heavy net investments of Rs. 531 crore on Monday by foreign institutional investors, the BSE benchmark 30-share index (Sensex) had risen to the intra-day high of 8405.46 in the first half of the session. It later fell sharply to the day's low of 8269.09 due to sudden selling spree before ending at 8308.78 against yesterday's close of 8317.80, a net fall of 9.02 points.
The Sensex had risen by over 632 points or 8.23 per cent between October 31 and November 8. PTI
