Government's decision will make MES stronger, says CPI(M)

Staff Reporter

`Reasons given for the decision do not pass muster'

BANGALORE: The State unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the Government for superseding the Belgaum City Corporation which adopted a resolution favouring merger of parts of Belgaum district with Maharashtra. It has warned that the Government's decision will make the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi stronger in the next Assembly elections.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, State Party Secretary G.N. Nagaraj said the reasons given by the Government for the supersession of the BCC do not pass muster. The Government may resort to the same "tactics" to supersede other recalcitrant municipal or panchayat bodies, he added.

Mr. Nagaraj said the CPI(M) favours status quo with regard to inter-State border disputes. Attention should be given to development, he added

He alleged there is a conspiracy to privatise airports and questioned the move to grant 74 per cent of share in Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to three private companies. He demanded a probe into the BIAL tender process.
