Kakinada: The long awaited dairying scheme of supplying as many as 10,000 pure Murrah buffaloes, proposed as an income generating activity as a part of the increasing finance to the woman self-help groups (SHGs) is going to be grounded during December. The first batch of 1,000 buffaloes is expected to reach the district during the first week of next month. The East Godavari Collector Anil Kumar Singhal told the district-level review committee meeting here on Wednesday that a credit target of Rs. 167 crores was envisaged to be linked to the 25,000 SHGs during the current year. He wanted the bankers to increase the loan assistance to women groups by encouraging new self-help groups besides reviving the dormant groups. The Andhra Bank deputy general manager Y. Prasad said that their bank had provided loans to the tune of Rs. 6 cores to the woman self-help groups on a single day on Wednesday, its Founder's Day celebration.
Salient features
The lead district manager A. Shanmukha Chary, while briefing the salient features of the dairying schemesaid that it would prove to be a boon for womenfolk, leading to their real empowerment. He said each beneficiary would derive at least a minimum Rs. 3,000 monthly income in addition to ensuring prompt repayment of loan instalment.
