Kakinada: Almost all the MLAs expressed displeasure over the manner in which banks were dodging loans for Government-sponsored programmes such as Rajiv Yuvashakti, Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana, Rajiv Gruha Kalpa and Solubhya schemes at the district level review committee of the bankers held here on Wednesday. They complained of inaction on part of banks despite being approached by people's representatives. Both the Ministers -- Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao and Gollapalli Suryarao - expressed dissatisfaction and asked the bankers to comply with the Government programmes.

Mr. Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao said wherever they went in rural areas, the general complaint of beneficiaries selected under various schemes was that banks were not sanctioning the loans, even though the applications were cleared by the appropriate committees. He told them to come out with their difficulties, if any, instead of subjecting the beneficiaries to embarrassment. He said if the banks were not willing to sanction the loans for Governmental programmes, the legislators would seek the intervention of the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister seeking clear-cut guidelines. The Minister for Animal Husbandry Gollapalli Suryarao asked banks to furnish with details of beneficiaries selected under various schemes and the reasons for not sanctioning or delayed clearance of the loans. He said the purpose of schemes would be defeated if loans were not sanctioned in time.
Units suffering
Chirla Jaggireddi MLA Kothapet drew the attention of the Minister to the delay in providing loans to pickle-making units in Atreyapuram area and how its brought misery to 10 families that depended on it. Viswaroop MLA Mummidivaram and Kudupudi Chitebbai MLA Amalapuram, Bikkina Krishnarjuna Choudary, Alamauru MLA and Thota Narasimham, Jaggampet MLA cited several instances where the beneficiaries were running from pillar to post for securing loans. However, on behalf of the banks, the Deputy General Manager of Andhra Bank, which is the lead bank, assured promised the elected representatives of expediting the process of loan sanctioning. Collector Anil Kumar Singhal said the complaint of banks insisting on security for sanctioning loans and called upon the banks to rise up to the occasion.
