BANGALORE: Five textile parks will be set up in the State with financial assistance from the Union Textiles Ministry.

J.N. Singh, Textiles Commissioner, told presspersons here on Friday that textile parks would come up in Kanakapura, Anekal, Nanjangud, Bellary and Bijapur.

The Karnataka State Powerloom Corporation has already identified 175 to 200 acres for each park. The land acquisition process will be completed in six months and infrastructure will be provided within a year.

The Union Textiles Ministry has taken measures to revive the textile industry and a decision has been taken up to set up between 52 and 100 apparel parks across the country within the next two years, he said.

Investment in infrastructure includes construction of roads, provision of testing facilities, common effluent treatment plants, exhibition and marketing halls, strengthening of power supply, improvement of water supply and drainage facilities, telecommunication network and IT facilities, establishment of design centres and improved warehousing facilities.

H.G. Jagannath of Bangalore District Powerloom Weavers' Production and Sales Cooperative Federation Ltd., said textile units in Bangalore are exporting garments worth Rs. 4,500 crores a year. However, these units depend on States such as Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra for raw material.

He requested the Mr. Singh to approve the hi-tech powerloom park at Doddballapur under the integrated textile park scheme.

B.S. Vishwanath, Managing Director, Karnataka State Powerloom Development Corporation, and T.V. Maruthi, President, Karnataka Weavers Federation, were present.
