Model, friend arrested

Bangalore: Model and actor Raghu Mukherjee and his friend Bhavana were arrested by the Chennai police here on Thursday and taken to that city. Personnel of Yelahanka police station helped the Chennai team locate the house where the actor and his friend live.

According to a senior police officer "the Chennai police team came here in the afternoon and sought our assistance. They had a non-bailable warrant issued by a city court in Chennai. Their team was headed by an inspector of the Guindy police station. They needed our help to locate their address and it was provided."

The police teams went to Mr. Mukherjee's house in Sahakarnagar, showed them the warrant and took them away. There were three charges against Mr. Mukherjee and his friend under sections 498 (A), 406 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code related to "dowry harassment," cruelty and criminal intimidation, based on a complaint made by Mr. Mukherjee's wife Deepa to the Chennai police.

Mr. Mukherjee was crowned `Grasim Mr. India' about three years ago. Subsequently, he acted as the hero in a Kannada movie `Paris Pranaya' and is reported to have a few offers from producers of Hindi films.
