BANGALORE: Three men, who reportedly came in a car, attacked an employee of the Commercial Tax Department and snatched from him a bag containing Rs. 3 lakhs in cash in Adugodi police station limits on Friday. The police said that around 1.30 p.m. Shivashankar, a bill collector with the department, was walking at Lakshman Rau Nagar, off the National Games village. Three men threw chilli powder on his face, assaulted him and snatched the bag containing the cash. Shivashankar immediately called the Control Room and told the police of the incident. Shivashankar had collected the money from commercial establishments and was carrying the cash to his office, the police said. The Adugodi police have registered a case.
Driver robbed
Three men stabbed an autorickshaw driver in the abdomen and robbed him of Rs. 100 in Jnana Bharati police station limits on Thursday night. The police said that around 9 p.m. the culprits boarded Krishnaraja Urs' autorickshaw at Kottigepalya on Magadi Road and asked him to drop them at 2nd Stage, Nagarabavi. On reaching the destination, the three got down from the vehicle and walked away without paying the fare. When Urs asked them to pay the fare, they stabbed him with a knife and snatched Rs. 100 from him, the police said. The Jnana Bharati police have registered a case.
Cellphones stolen
Thieves entered a house in HAL police station limits by removing the latch of the main door and made away with two mobile phones and Rs. 2,400 in cash in the early hours of Friday. The police said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. at Vishwapal's house on 3rd Cross, Vignananagar. Vishwapal was asleep when the theft took place, the police said.
Arrested
The Basaveshwaranagar police arrested five persons who allegedly murdered Sampath Kumar (30) near Kurabarahalli water tank on Tuesday night. The arrested were identified as Kumara, Moula, Noorullah, Chandramoulesh and Manju. The Yelahanka police arrested five more persons in connection with the murder of Manjunath alias Machcha, who was hacked to death in Judicial Layout about a month ago. So far the police have arrested 19 people. The names of the five were given as Basava alias Gooli Basava, Dharani, Devaraj, Mani and Kumara.
Recovered
The Rajagopalanagar police have recovered copper wires worth Rs. 80,000 by arresting two youths on the charge of theft. The police said the arrested, S. Zabi (19) and Ayub Khan (18), residents of Hegganahalli, had stolen the copper wires from a factory in Peenya industrial area.
