Monica taken to Bhopal amid tight security

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Former Bollywood starlet and Abu Salem's companion Monica Bedi was taken to Bhopal amid tight security on Sunday. She will be produced before a local court there on Monday in a case related to possession of a fake passport. A non-bailable warrant had been pending against her in the case.

According to a senior official in the Prisons Department, sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation took Bedi from Chanchalguda central prison, where she was lodged, at around 5 a.m.

"The sleuths handed over a letter to us and took her," a police official said. She was driven away by an escort team to the Nampally railway station. All the while, her face was covered.

At around 6.30 a.m., Bedi was made to board the AP Express along with 17 armed constables. The police booked a luggage-cum-parcel van of the train for the journey.

Though several mediapersons were present at the railway station, the escort team ensured that none could get close. Some camera crews even tried to take pictures at the Kazipet railway station, but security personnel did not allow them.

They would reach Bhopal in the night.

"It all depends on the Bhopal court," a senior police official said when asked when Bedi would be brought back to Hyderabad.
