Sasti celebrated with fervour

Rajahmundry: People in the district celebrated Subrahmanya Sasti with religious fervour on Wednesday. All Siva temples in the district were crowded as the idols of Sri Surbrahmanya Swamy, along with Goddess Valli and Devasena, were located in the same premises.

The 150-year-old Sri Markandeya temple on the bank of river Godavari was thronged with devotees from early morning. According to N.V. Ramana, the Executive Officer of the temple, the morning ritual started at 2.30 a.m. The idols of Lord Sri Subrahmanya Swamy, Goddess Valli and Devasana got ready for darshan by 3.30 a.m. and the long queues were allowed for free darshan from 4 a.m. About 30 thousand devotees had darshan by night, he said.

The Kalyana Mahotsavam of God and Goddess was performed in the night and special abishekams were arranged up to afternoon. In Korukonda road, at the Subrahmanya Swamy temple, rituals were performed with elaborate arrangements.
