Kakinada: The death of a chronic cancer patient Arava Rajamani (64) in Hyderabad and the reported comments of the hospital medical officers there attributing it to wrong treatment given by a doctor here, led to people staging a wild protest here on Thursday. The patient's relatives brought the body in an ambulance with the people, following in a procession, raising protests against the doctor. They came in lorries and tractors from Chillangi village near Kirlampudi and staged a protest at the Collectorate.
Complaint lodged
Some of them went to two town police station and lodged a complaint alleging the doctor's negligence and wrong treatment in the case. DSP Baburao and Inspector Balla Lakshminarayana had taken timely action and averted a major law and order situation. The demonstrators tried to take the body to the private nursing home and create an unruly situation, but their attempts were foiled by the police who allowed only the kith and kin of the deceased to meet the doctor. Explaining to the grief-stricken people that there was nothing wrong in his treatment, Dr K. Vishnumurthy, a noted plastic surgeon, said the patient died because she was suffering from cancer for a long time. Later, explaining the details of the case to newsmen, the doctor said that his involvement in the case was of a minor nature and it was natural that people, while in grief, would make such wild allegations.
