HYDERABAD: A minor dispute among boys over flying of a kite triggered violence with a mob raiding a hotel resulting in injuries to five of its owner's family at Mangalhat on Monday. The `Gopal' hotel owner Sheetal Singh, however, charged that a history-sheeter of Tappachabutra police station Mohd. Johnny led the crowd to take vengeance since he refused to give the monthly `mamool' the latter had demanded. Rumours of communal tension spread in the area since the hotel owner's family and the mob belonged to different communities. Police higher-ups rushed additional forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), to the locality. The situation was tense but under control. According to West Zone DCP Amit Garg, two boys fought over a kite near the hotel. Mr. Singh's 12-year-old son slapped a boy Javed. A passer-by Akbar intervened and tried to pacify the duo. Meanwhile, the hotel owner came out thinking that his son was under attack and thrashed Akbar. A few minutes later, Akbar's woman family members came to the spot and picked up an argument with the owner of the hotel. They were also allegedly thrashed. Around 6.30 p.m., some 20 members allegedly wielding sticks and iron rods raided the hotel. Singh, his family members - Lalita Bai, 45, Rajesh Singh, 35, Sunny, 12, Ganesh Singh, 20, and Sandeep, 12, sustained minor injuries in the attack.
