NEW DELHI:
An Indian Air Force MiG-21 fighter crashed shortly after taking off from Assam's Tezpur airbase around noon on Tuesday but there was no loss of life or property.
A court of inquiry has been ordered into the accident. Preliminary reports suggested technical defect as the cause of the crash.
According to sources here, the MiG-21 of Type 77, that is being phased out, developed some trouble after taking off from one of the largest fighter bases in the region. The pilot Squadron Leader S. Bansal ejected safely.
