Rs. 100 cr. for houses to Vamsadhara oustees

Joint Collector reviews implementation of relief and rehabilitation package for displaced persons


  • More than 12,000 persons spread over 35 villages will be submerged
  • Panels with displaced persons as members mooted

    Srikakulam: Joint Collector M.Veerabrahmaiah on Tuesday said that Rs.100 crores would be spent for provision of permanent houses and other amenities to improve the quality of life of oustees of the Vamsadhara project.

    Reviewing the implementation of relief and rehabilitation package for displaced persons under the project with engineers and other officials at his chambers here, Mr.Veerabrahamaiah said more than 12,000 persons spread over 35 villages which would be submerged by the project would be covered under the package.

    For the family that had lost house, three and a half cents of land (75 sq mts in urban areas) would be given free of cost and Rs.40,000 for construction of house.

    Steps would also be taken to ensure loans from banks, he said. Other aspects of the RR package include financial help for transport of livestock and other articles of house. In all each family would get about Rs.1 lakh for house, he said. Mr.Veerabrahmaiah explained the other aspects of the rehabilitation package and requested all concerned to work with coordination and ensure implementation of the package expeditiously.

    Mr.Veerabrahmaiah wanted officials to encourage the oustees to go in for schemes which would ensure permanent income. He wanted committees to be formed with displaced persons as members.

    This would give a better understanding of the needs of displaced persons, Mr.Veerabrahmaiah said. K.B.Rajendra Prasad, SE, Vamsadhara Porject, and B.Yadagiri, District Revenue Officer, participated.
