House condoles death of two ex-members

HYDERABAD: The Assembly on Wednesday condoled the death of two formers members - S. Ramachandra Reddy and M. Ramachandraiah - and conveyed its sympathy to the family members.

CPI(M) protests against delay in laying road

KURNOOL: Supporters of the CPI(M) stormed the R&B office here on Wednesday, protesting against delay in laying road near the traffic island at C. Camp centre. Workers led by city secretary Prabhakar Reddy, floor leader Pulla Reddy and zone secretary Ramakrishna locked the office and forced the Executive Engineer to leave the premises. - Staff Reporter

Ryotu sangham stir on December 20

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Ryotu Sangham has demanded that the Government announce a compensation of Rs. 2,000 per acre to farmers who lost their crops due to the recent floods and rain in different parts of the State. The sangham will hold `rasta roko' and stage dharna throughout the State on December 20 in support of their demands - Special Correspondent

Janashakti naxal killed in encounter

WARANGAL: Commander of Janashakti LGS Thati Venkateswarlu alias Suryam was killed in an encounter near Malluru village in Mangapet mandal on Wednesday morning. According to the police, there was an exchange of fire between a police party and naxalites. The police recovered one revolver from the spot. - Staff Reporter

Landmine unearthed

VIZIANAGARAM: Special Task Force team unearthed a landmine weighing 25 kg from behind a culvert on the Thappagothili-Lankajodu BT road under Neelakanthapuram police station limits on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police Bhavana Saxena said that the bomb disposal squad defused the landmine.- Correspondent

Mala Mahanadu opposes categorisation

HYDERABAD: The Mala Mahanadu has urged the Congress to give up its efforts for empowering the States to amend Article 341 for introducing categorisation of Scheduled Castes.

Y. Ramulu, State secretary, said in a statement that the organisation would hold State-wide demonstrations on December 15 and take out a `chalo Hyderabad' rally on January 20 to express its opposition to SC categorisation. - Special Correspondent

Decision on revolving fund flayed

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samkhya has criticised the Government's decision to discontinue revolving fund to new thrift groups after the Congress promised in the election manifesto to sanction funds. It warned of an agitation if the decision was implemented. - Special Correspondent

Vacancies in consumer redressal panel

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has invited applications for vacant posts of members (both men and women) in the commission and nine district fora.

Cold wave conditions

in State

HYDERABAD: Cold wave conditions have set in the State again. Minimum temperatures significantly fell on Wednesday at a few places in Rayalaseema and at many places in Coastal Andhra and Telangana. However, Adilabad continues to be the State's coldest place, recording 7 degree Celsius. There was isolated rain over Rayalaseema. Puttur in Chittoor district received a rainfall of 1 cm. - Special Correspondent

Woman commits suicide

CHITTOOR: A woman Chandrakala along with her one-year-old baby reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Venkatapalli tank in V. Kota mandalam 70 km from here on Wednesday. It was alleged that a rumour about Chandrakala having an affair with her husband's friend led to the woman taking her life. - Correspondent

Three hurt in accident

Nellore: Three workers sustained serious injuries when the tractor in which they were travelling overturned on the national highway near Bogole on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the axle of the tractor suddenly broke loose. All the injured have been shifted to Government Hospital, Kavali. In another incident at Sullurpet, two persons were injured when a motorcycle rammed into an autorickshaw. They have been rushed to Chennai for treatment. - Staff Reporter

CHITTOOR: NEDCAP week celebrations will be held from December 14 to 21 in the district, Jagadeeswara Reddy district manager of NEDCAP has said. Potti Sriramulu's

death anniversary

Nellore: The 53rd death anniversary of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu, who laid down his life for the cause of separate Andhra Pradesh is being observed on Thursday. Sriramulu had spent several years in Nellore and way back in 1942, he started `Sutrayagnam' on the banks of Pennar river and propagated community dinners. - Staff Reporter

Tobacco barn gutted

Nellore: A tobacco barn was gutted in Nerdanampadu village of Marripadu mandal, resulting in loss of firewood, iron sheets and tyres. It is stated to be accidental. Meanwhile, a thatched house was reduced to ashes in Maramreddipalli village. It was reportedly started by a spark from a lamp. - Staff Reporter

Trekking expedition

TIRUPATI: The State branch of the Youth Hostels Association of India will organise a weeklong trekking expedition at the national level through Anantagiri, Borra caves and Araku valley in the Eastern Ghats. The event will get underway at Visakhapatnam on December 24. Those interested can participate by paying a fee of Rs. 1,100, G. K.Vijaya Kumar, head of the Tirupati unit of the Youth Hostels, has said. - Special Correspondent
