TNCC welcomes setting up of Salem railway division
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has welcomed the Railway Ministry's decision to form a new division with headquarters at Salem.
TNCC president G.K.Vasan, in a statement here on Wednesday, said seeds for a division in Salem were sown by the late S.V.Ramaswami in the 1960s, when he was the Deputy Minister for Railways. It was due to his efforts that a new line was laid between Salem and Bangalore. Subsequently, party MPs belonging to Tamil Nadu, especially those from Salem and Rasipuram raised their voice for the formation, which had borne fruit now.
