CHENNAI:
As part of its seventeenth music and dance festival, Suswaraa Trust, Academy of Music and Dance honoured four artists on Tuesday.
While senior Veena artiste Trivandrum Venkatraman and dancer Gopika Varma were conferred with `Sangita Kala Jyothi' award, T.N.Ramachandran and Munuganti Sri Ramamurthy were awarded the `Gnana Saraswatipeeth Puraskar' award.
Musicologist B.M.Sundaram felicitated the awardees.
Forty years
Lauding Mr. Ramamurthy for running the "Ganakala" magazine for over forty years, he said it was no easy task to run a magazine, particularly one on music.
M.Krishnaswamy, Chairman, Sri Thiagaraja Trust, Tirupati & Vice-President, Andhra Pradesh Federation of Music Sabhas, in his address, said, "This is a very pleasant function because four deserving artistes are being honoured in a simple and humble way." Mr. Krishnaswamy said T. Lokananda Sarma, Founder, Suswaraa ran the organisation single-handedly, in a very effective manner.
"Artists, I am sorry to say, are not very easy to handle. They have their own ideas. So I know how difficult it is to run a Sabha. Lokananda Sarma does that with total commitment," he added.
