Free medical camp

CHENNAI: The Madras Medical Mission will conduct a free medical camp from December 26 - 30 for couples with infertility problems. The camp will be conducted between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the above dates by a team of gynaecologists led by Dr Thankam R. Varma. Free medical examination and counselling will be offered. A 25 per cent concession will be given for advanced tests. Call 26565513/14 for details.

Detoxification camp

To commemorate its second anniversary, Wisdom Medical Research Foundation will organise a five-day free detoxification camp for patients with alcohol and drug addiction. Round-the-clock counselling for affected people and their families is also offered. For details, call 24964919/4404.

Students of Vani Vidyalaya in Virugambakkam participated in the International Convention on Students Quality Control Circles recently conducted in Lucknow.

Free eye camp

The Hindu Mission Hospital conducted a free eye camp at Adi Nagar in Tambaram on December 14. After the screening of 137 persons, 15 have been referred for free surgery, a release here said.

London college admissions

PIB officer promoted

V. Sankaran, Information Officer, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Chennai has taken over as joint director (news), All India Radio, Chennai on promotion. He has served as public relations officer, Ministry of Defence, Chennai. N. Andavan, Assistant Information Officer, PIB, Chennai assumed charge as Inspector of Exhibitions in the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, Chennai, on promotion.

Inaccessible ration shop

The Kamarajar National Congress has accused the Mylapore Assistant Commissioner of tardiness in shifting the ration shop serving around 3,500 residents of Mandaveli to the Women's Co-operative Store in Mandaveli. The two shops that initially functioned on 191, R.K. Mutt Road, are to be shifted near Chitraikulam, Mylapore, more than two kilometres from the original location from December 15. A petition, signed by 250 residents, asking that the shop be shifted to the Women's Cooperative is yet to be acted upon.

Alumni day
