Campaign launched to collect manuscripts

Staff Reporter

Rajahmundry: The stage is set for collection of manuscripts in both Godavari districts. The National Manuscripts Mission, New Delhi and the State Government in coordination with Oriental Manuscripts Library (OML) have launched this programme in the district two days ago.

East Godavari district Collector Anil Kumar Singhal constituted a four-member committee, in which Collector is Chairman and DRO is coordinator and other two members are popular Telugu Scholars -- Sannidhanam Narasimha Sarma of Rajahmundry and Garikapati Narasimharao of Kakinada.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the movement here, Sannidhanam Narasimha Sarma said that many manuscripts were lying in storerooms of some old houses in the State and there was no protection for them. He said that the OML was collecting them from all corners of the State to preserve them. He asked the people to handover the old manuscripts written on palm leaves or in any other form for being preserved in OML in Hyderabad. He asked students to take palm leave manuscripts as model to develop their handwriting. Historian Y.S. Narasimha Rao asked the youth to find out manuscripts in old houses, villages and even in temples and hand over the same to the district committee.
