State Government vows to protect tribals' interest
Special Correspondent
Hyderabad:
A meeting of the tribal MLAs of all parties on Monday was assured by the Government that the interests of the tribals would not be compromised because of the proposed bauxite ore mining in Visakhapatnam district.
Referring to the controversy, Minister for Commercial Taxes K. Ramakrishna, who also hails from the district, said apprehensions of the CPI (M) that the mining would be detrimental to the interests of the tribals were needless.
The Government had taken precautionary measures to preserve ecological balance and there would be no negative impact either on people or flora and fauna in the area, he said.
CPI (M) MLA S. Rajaiah opposed the proposal and asked the Government to cry a halt to the project.
