Improve the lot of STs, says NHRC member

HYDERABAD: Y. Bhaskar Rao, member, National Human Rights Commission, has underscored the need for taking steps to substantially improve the socio-economic conditions of Scheduled Tribes in the country.

Inaugurating the two-day conference on `Tribal policy for India' organised by the Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Research and Social Action here on Friday, he observed that poverty was a major obstacle in tribals attaining a decent standard of living and enjoying human rights.
