Hyderabad: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has criticised the proposed padayatra of the Telugu Desam Party in Telangana districts seeking early completion of Pranahitha-Chevella project as "an exercise in self-deceit." Addressing a press conference here on Friday, D.Sridhar Babu, Government Whip, and A.Indrakaran Reddy, K.Konappa and N.Divakar Rao, CLP members, asked the TDP leadership to explain the contribution of the party to the development of the irrigation sector in the State. Particularly meaningless was their padayatra seeking early completion of the project since the Congress Government had even ordered a detailed project report. The Pranahitha-Chevella project was conceived by Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy for the benefit of the Telangana region. The TDP, which neglected the irrigation sector in the last nine years of its rule, had no right to talk about the projects taken up by the Government now, they said. The TDP's double standard stood exposed in the demand for early completion of the project as it was criticising the Government for taking up the works elsewhere without clearances.
