Venkaiah Naidu not to hold party post

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Former BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu has said he had conveyed to the incumbent, Rajnath Singh, not to consider him for any post when he reconstitutes the party's national executive.

Mr. Naidu told reporters here on Saturday that he wanted to work for the party without holding any post. He said Mr. Singh would constitute his team after the national council meeting of the BJP on January 20.

He dismissed reports that he was unwilling to work under Mr. Singh as he was junior to him. There was no need for speculation as the question of a junior or a senior did not arise in the party. All of them were equals.

The former BJP chief complimented Mr. Singh as an able and experienced party leader and a good administrator.

Insisting that he had never hankered for posts, he said he had refused accepting the presidentship on the last occasion for four months when Mr. Advani asked him to take over the reins.

It was only after much persuasion by Mr. Advani, who was reluctant to assume the office himself as he was already holding two responsibilities, that he accepted.
