HYDERABAD: The Planning Commission is likely to submit to the Government the draft of a national integrated energy policy in about two weeks, according to Kirit S. Parikh, Member (Energy) of the Commission. Mr. Parikh told reporters here that the Commission was giving finishing touches to the draft and the process was likely to take one to two weeks. "A rough draft has been put out on the Commission's website and awaiting feedback from stakeholders." The highlight was a proposal to replace the provision of subsidised kerosene to families living below the poverty line (BPL) with a system of direct compensation to them. The Government would transfer about Rs. 100 a month to every BPL family in the form of a debit card. "The aim was to prevent adulteration of diesel with kerosene and ensure that the interests of the BPL families were protected," Dr. Parikh said. Senior Adviser in the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources S.K.Chopra said the National Hydrogen Energy Board would meet on January 16 and prepare a roadmap for implementing a national hydrogen energy policy.
