Chhattisgarh, U.P. triumph

VIJAYAWADA: Chhattisgarh women emerged champions at the 25th Senior National netball championship defeating Karnataka 28-25 here on Wednesday.

In a seesaw women's final, Kanchan of Chhattisgarh as goal scorer dominated the proceedings with her perfect sinking ability, while Prameela emerged as top scorer for Karnataka.

In the scintillating men's final, Uttar Pradesh defeated Haryana 32-29. Both the teams were locked at 24-24 at the end of the schedule time and in the extra time, UP outplayed Haryana by mustering 8-5.

The results: Final: Women: Chhattisgarh 28 (Kanchan 24, Balwender 4) bt Karnataka 25 (Prameela 15, Divya 10); Semifinals: Chhattisgarh 27 (Kanchan 24, Balwender 3) bt Andhra Pradesh 26 (Monalisa 19, Divya 7); Karnataka 27 (Prameela 18, Divya 9) bt Haryana 20 (Rekha 7, Reeta 13).

Men: Final: Uttar Pradesh 32 bt Haryana 29; Semifinals: Uttar Pradesh 21 (Robin 7, P. Singh 14) bt Rajasthan 17 (Lokesh Yadav 4, Rajesh 13).

Haryana 30 (Praveen 23, Sateesh 7) bt Delhi 28 (Rajesh 14, Parveesh 14).
