J.J. Nagar pips St. Antony's Church

HYDERABAD : J.J. Nagar edged out a fighting St. Antony's Church (Gandhinagar) 5-4 via tie-breaker in the 10th Bolarum Challenge Cup football tournament at Bolarum Grounds here on Wednesday. It was St. Antony's which shot into lead in the third minute when winger Qayyum scored with a fine solo effort in the third minute. But, within 10 minutes, JJ Nagar fought back to score the equaliser through centre-half Nityanand. Both the teams were locked one-all at the end of regulation time.

In the tie-breaker, Goverdhan, Vimal, Niranjan and Louis scored for JJ Nagar while Qayyum, Javed and Hussain were successful for the losers.

SAI selections

Sports Authority of India informs that selection trials will be held for admission to hostels in hockey, kabaddi, archery and gymnastics will be later this week in the City.

The schedule is as follows: Hockey: At Secunderabad STC, Begumpet Police Stadium, February 6 and 7.

Kabaddi, judo, badminton, boxing, archery and gymnastics: Saroornagar STC, Saroornagar Indoor Stadium - February 8 and 9.

Candidates should be in the age group of 14 to 18 years and should be medal winners at State\National level for Category I and II and for Category III medal winners in district\School\Rural meets. Those interested in applying can contact K.Srilatha Reddy, Assistant Director, SAI (AP), along with original date of birth certificates. SAAP Cup cricket

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh will organise, in coordination with Hyderabad Corporate Cricket Association, it's first-ever SAAP Twenty-20 Cup corporate cricket tournament from March 4 at Lal Bahadur Stadium and two other venues to raise funds for rural sports and also allocate 50 per cent of the revenue generated towards AIDS eradication programme, according to M.S. Raj Thakur, SAAP chairman.

The entry fee for the event is Rs.40,000 and that about 15 teams have already shown interest to take part. There will be no prize money and only mementoes will be given to the winners and runner-up. The event is also being organised as part of the efforts of SAAP to create a corpus fund to be given to the needy sportspersons, Thakur said. Since the objective of conducting the tournament is to support a social cause, the entry fees will be credited directly into the SAAP account and not through any agency.

APBA's coaching camp

The Andhra Pradesh Basketball Association will conduct a coaching camp at YMCA, Secunderabad from February 6 for the probables, listed below, in preparation for the South Zone championships at Kottayam, Kerala from February 22 to 26.

SZ basketball championships

The Kerala Basketball Association will conduct the South Zone basketball championships for men and women at Kottayam from Feb. 22 to 26.

Karnataka, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, host Kerala and the Sri Lankan national teams, who have been invited, will participate in the event in both the men's and women's sections.

All states have confirmed their participation, according to GM Sampath Kumar, General Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Basketball Association, Convenor, south zone championship and chairman, Technical Commission, Basketball Federation of India (BFI).

Arjun in last four

Arjun Goutham of Karnataka defeated Yanick Nelord of Delhi 6-3, 6-2 in the men's singles quarterfinals of the Circars all-India ranking men's tennis tournament at Kakinada on Wednesday.
