Chennai: Madras Boat Club `B' coxed fours, consisting of Sangamithra Rajendra, Pooja Balu, Nina Sabitha Simon and Fazila Hussein, coxed by Ritesh, cornered the spotlight on the inaugural day of the ARAE rowing championships at the Adyar River on Wednesday. The crew beat favourite, MBC `A' to reach the final of the women's event. As many as 27 races in the preliminary heats were completed on the opening day after the formal inauguration function. Neville J. Bilimoria, Captain of Boats, MBC, hoisted the flag on behalf of the host club while the other captains unfurled their club pennants. While welcoming the participants, Mr. Bilimoria, thanked the sponsors, Hutch, Allsec Technologies, Vantage Group, Spencers and Ummidiars, for their help and support. The finals are scheduled on Saturday.
