Susan Muthalaly

CHENNAI: Mad Film Fest 2006 is an opportunity for digital filmmakers across the country to showcase their work.

It will be held on February 11 at the South Indian Film Chamber theatre from 6.30 p.m. onwards.

About 10 to 15 of the best films submitted will be screened.

Organised by Multi-visual Academy for the second year, the festival is open to all. Sujith A. Panicker, director of the academy, said there were 20 entries this year, mostly from Tamil Nadu.

The most popular themes for the films are social messages.

The last date for submitting entries was January 10.

Mr. Panicker said the idea behind the festival is to encourage young talent, especially students, and give them a platform to display their work.

The films will all be within 15 minutes. Film critic Venkatesh Chakravarty and poet Kutti Revathi comprise the jury.

The best film will win Rs.10,000.

Actor-director M. Nasser will be the chief guest.

A registration pass to the festival costs Rs.50.

This can be purchased at the venue on February 11.
