Atwal, Chopra miss the cut

Florida: Arjun Atwal could not be third time lucky and dropped five shots over the first six holes to miss the cut again, while Indian-born Swede Daniel Chopra also fell by the wayside after a nightmarish seven-over 79 in the $8 million Players championship.

Meanwhile, American Jim Furyk (eight-under 136) carded one-under 71 to stay one shot clear while it was a dramatic exit for the other overnight leader Davis Love III after a horrendous 83. Chopra hit a birdie on the sixth hole and that was the last time he was seen smiling.

The former Asian Tour regular stumbled on a couple of bogeys on his front nine and his return journey proved worse as he dropped bogeys in regular intervals — on the 11th, 13th, 14th and 18th and to make it worse, a double bogey on the 17th completed his agony.

Chopra totalled a disappointing two-day total of 149 that slammed the door on him. In his debut here, Atwal too, had just a birdie — on the 17th — to boast about.

He missed the cut for the third time in a row with a total of 151.

Former winner Tiger Woods, clearly not in the best frame of mind as his father battles with cancer, improved on his opening level-par round to finish at three under and is placed tied 20th with a two-day total of 141. — UNI
