Pankaj Advani bags title

HYDERABAD: A tactical blunder by Alok Kumar of opting to play snooker in the first event instead of nine-ball pool in which he is more reputed saw Pankaj Advani wrap up the final in the CII-Indian Cue Masters tournament at the Jubilee Hills International Centre here on Saturday.

Alok, who won the toss, initially preferred to play pool game, but he quickly changed his mind for snooker. And that proved to be a costly lapse in the final analysis as he virtually frittered away the advantage he would have had by virtue of his known prowess in the pool game.

Advani was in great form and with two breaks of 39 and 25, he won the first frame 71-20.

Though Alok came back strongly to win the second one 51-67, Advani recovered remarkably after trailing 8-28 to come up with breaks of 21, 28 and eight to clinch the third frame and also the contest.

Other results: Semifinals: Alok Kumar bt Aditya Mehta 2-0 (Snooker: 57-39, 66-24; Pool: 5-4); Pankaj Advani bt Dharmender Lilly 2-1 (Billiards: 51-2, 51-11; Pool: 5-2; Snooker: 32-48, 74-11, 66-37). Quarterfinals: Pankaj Advani bt Yasin Merchant 2-0; Dharmender Lilly bt Geet Sethi 2-0; Alok Kumar bt Rupesh Shah 2-1; Aditya Mehta bt Manan Chandra 2-1.
