Melbourne's offer to Games bidders

MELBOURNE: Melbourne will hold a how-to seminar for cities that want to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell said organising officials from Melbourne would meet in July with counterparts from the cities interested — Glasgow, Scotland, Abuja, Nigeria, and Halifax, Canada — to discuss what is required and what it's possible to do.

It would be the first such session for the Commonwealth Games. The International Olympic Committee has long had so-called transfer of knowledge programs between host and bidding cities. Fennell said the CGF was consistently assessing the relevance of the Commonwealth Games, which is regularly dominated by Australia and a handful of other countries. — AP
