TO CONSERVE MORE: The new wastewater recycling plant commissioned at BHEL, Tiruchi.
TIRUCHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) here has commissioned a wastewater recycling plant, the third on its campus, which can recycle 300 litres daily. The two other units, one near Seamless Steel Tube Plant and the other near Boiler Plant, are handling 1,250 litres. With the new plant, BHEL will be able to recycle 1,550 litres daily, which can be used for irrigation and other purposes. On the Rs.28.50-lakh new plant, the Deputy General Manager (Environmental Management System), BHEL, K. Rajaperumal told The Hindu on Saturday that besides collecting wastewater from hydro-testing station, it would primarily collect a huge volume of spill-over water from the Cooling Water System already free from impurities. The BHEL was also implementing maximum economy in water utility. The daily utilisation at various plants had been drastically reduced from 20,000 litres in 2000 to 11,000 litres now. A study on solid waste management was also in progress, especially on huge volume of paper and wood wastes, he said. The Executive Director, BHEL, V. Gopalakrishnan, commissioned the plant on Friday.
