Government blacklists insurance company

Staff Reporter

"For not rendering services properly while settling a claim"

  • "Do not utilise the firm's services"
  • Instructions issued to district officers

TIRUNELVELI: The Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu, has blacklisted the United India Insurance Company "for not rendering proper services in settling an insurance claim" and directed all industrial cooperative societies coming under its control not to utilise the services of the insurance company any more.

Moreover, the societies, which have currently insured with UIIC, should ensure that they entrust the insurance coverage of the assets of their societies to any other insurance company other than UIIC after the expiry of current insurance policy, said the Additional Commissioner of Industries and Commerce, Registrar of Industrial Cooperative Societies, Har Sahay Meena, in a letter (RC. No. 11977 / ICS / 2006 dated March 10, 2006).

The letter states that the UIIC has not rendered proper services in settling the insurance claim of Tamil Nadu Rubberised Coir Industrial Cooperative Society Limited, Panayakkottai (INCOFOAM) near Chennai. And hence instructions were issued to all the district officers of Industrial Cooperatives Wing to ensure that none of their industrial cooperative societies are entrusting the insurance of the assets of their societies to UIIC.

A copy of the circular should be communicated to the industrial cooperative societies and officers must ensure that none of the industrial cooperative society deviated from the above instructions, the letter says.

"The Joint Director, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of the Industrial cooperatives wing, while visiting the societies during quarterly, cursory inspections should ensure that no society utilises the services of UIIC".
