CHENNAI: Both Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi have reacted to the The Hindu -CNN-IBN poll survey published on Friday.

To a question on the findings of the survey, at Andipatti, where she filed her nomination papers on Saturday, Ms. Jayalalithaa said they were mistaken. The results would prove otherwise. She also ruled out the possibility of a hung Assembly and expressed confidence that the people would give a clear mandate as in the past.

On the "arithmetic advantage" enjoyed by the Opposition, she said she was not bothered. "People have already decided that the Government led by me should come to power."

"A piece of advice"

At an election meeting in Thanjavur on Saturday, Mr. Karunanidhi said the opinion poll had said the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had a vote share projection of 46 per cent for the coming election and the DMK 44 per cent.

"Opinion polls sometimes come true. But sometimes they fail. But we take it as a warning and advice to step up our work to overcome the two per cent difference and win the elections," Mr. Karunanidhi said.

However, the DMK chief added that those predicting a delivery should say whether it would be a boy or girl and not say it could be either a boy or a girl.

He said press freedom was more important to newspapers and hence they should be keen on removing a regime that crushed such freedom.
