GGH to have special ward for destitute patients

Hospital development panel meet also discusses progress of second block

VIJAYAWADA: Government General Hospital (GGH) Development Committee has decided that a separate ward should be established for destitute patients with the support of NGOs and philanthropists.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of district Collector Navin Mittal. It also discussed the progress of the second block and raising funds for development of the hospital.

Mr. Mittal reportedly pulled up the representatives of Andhra Pradesh Medical, Health Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation for the tardy progress in equipping the second block of the GGH for occupation. The committee had decided to shift the casualty ward and set up a diagnostic wing at the new block. The administrative wing is housed in the buildings of the Siddhartha Medical College.

Donations for equipment

Mr. Mittal said that the committee was seeking donations for the purchase of equipment. A treadmill required for conducting test on the heart was purchased and inaugurated on Saturday, he said. The committee discussed the pros and cons of accepting donations in kind (ceiling fans, beds and other furniture) from patients.

The GGH Development Committee was registered under the Societies Act so that charitable trusts and individuals who donate for the development of the hospital would get income tax exemption, Mr Mittal said.

Siddhartha Medical College principal G.Eswar, GGH superintendent T.Rama Prasad, Resident Medical Officer T.Anjaneyulu and Mr.Ganga Raju, who is a member of the development committee were present.
