CHENNAI: Over 40 per cent of self-help group members are likely to vote for the AIADMK, while 31 per cent may support the DMK, according to a recent pre-poll survey conducted by an independent development consultant. The survey was conducted by analyst R. Bhakther Solomon among a sample group of 2,000 women out of an estimated base of 55 lakh SHG members in the State. The findings are based on the opinions of respondents spread across Kancheepuram, Pudukottai, Tiruvallur, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Sivaganga and Namakkal districts. The respondents were asked how they rated the last five years of the Government's performance, their opinion on the local MLA, on what basis they would elect their candidate and the problems confronted by the groups in the last few years. The study, conducted from April 6 to 13, found 42 per cent of the sample group would vote for the AIADMK-led alliance, 31 per cent for the DMK-led front and 5 per cent for others; 22 per cent were yet to decide. "The investigators have not used any structured question or polling booth type exercise and only noted the broad positive points and then arrived at a conclusion ... ," Mr. Solomon said.
