Micky guides Salgaocar to victory

Panaji: East Bengal went down to Salgaocar by a solitary goal in a 10th ONGC National Football League match here on Sunday. Salgaocar's persistent efforts bore fruit in the second half when Micky Fernandes' shot off an indirect free kick from inside the box found the net.

East Bengal went all out after the goal, but was thwarted by the rival defenders. Mike Okoro had the best chance to equalise in the dying minutes, but he hit the ball out off a Baichung Bhutia pass.

The win took Salgaocar to 11 points from 12 matches, while East Bengal remained in the second place with 28 points from 15 matches. — PTI
