MYSORE: District in-charge and Housing Minister D.T. Jayakumar said on Thursday that a committee would be formed to discuss and incorporate suggestions from the people, which could be useful in the preparation of a master plan for Mysore city.

Participating in an interaction meeting here with prominent people of Mysore, the Minister said subcommittees could be formed, which could discuss specific areas and come out with a list of suggestions.

Book

These suggestions would be brought out in the form of a book, which would help future planners to prepare master plans, he said.

Mr. Jayakumar said planned growth was still a possibility in Mysore as against Bangalore which had become congested owing to the haphazard growth. There was no dearth of funds for initiating development works in Mysore, as the city was expected to receive nearly Rs. 300 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Preparation of a master plan would help planners to move ahead with programmes, the Minister said.

On the unregulated growth around the Chamundi Hills, the Minister said that nearly 2,400 acres had been kept for the development of lung space, the status of which was not known now. "Land has been encroached upon using fake documents, and we do not know the true status of these land. To enable the formation of green zone within 1,000 metres around the hills, land should be acquired and compensation could be given to those in possession of documents," he added.

He said that the concept of peripheral ring road at a distance of 15 km from the city should be discussed. It would help in decongesting the traffic in the city.

In all, Mysore should be developed as a tourist city, the Minister said.
