BANGALORE: The first JSW-Karnataka State open squash championship will be held at the Jindal Vijaynagar Sports Complex, Vijaynagar Works, Toranagallu, Bellary, from June 28 to July 1. The four-day event has attracted about 100 players from all over the country, including about a dozen from the Jindal Squash Academy in operation in New Mumbai for more than four years now. Speaking to the Press, Vinod K. Nowal, executive director, JSW Steel, Vijaynagar said that: "JSW Steel and JSW Foundation have strived to promote sports at the National level. The tie-up with the Karnataka Squash Racquets Association is for the next four years". The championships will be held in open category (for men and women) besides the under-19, u-17, u-15, u-13 and u-11 age groups for boys and girls. About 40 players from Mumbai, 20 from Chennai and almost the same number from Karnataka have already confirmed their entries. Rs One lakhs is the prize money on offer for the winners while the sponsors JSW will provide boarding and lodging for all participants.
Chess tournament
The Hosur Chess Academy will conduct its 72nd children's monthly chess tournament at the Shree Aiyappa temple premises, 27th cross, Jayanagar, 7th block on July 2 from 9 a.m. Registration starts at 8 a.m on the same day at the venue. Contact J. Chandady at 09843171644.
Prabhu set for
European tour
The Indian wheelchair tennis player, Boniface Prabhu will leave for Europe on Tuesday and he will play in the French, Belgium and UK Open wheelchair championships. Prabhu, sponsored by Allen Solly and Royal Challenge, will also be coached by the French Federation coach Noel Raz.
Chess for children

The Karnataka State Basketball Association will conduct the State `B' division basketball men's league championship at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts in Bangalore from July 10 to 15.
