On POTA

The Mumbai blasts have led to a strong demand for POTA's revival. Terrorism has crept into our society and grown as a dreaded monster. The most effective instrument to deal with it is POTA or its equivalent.

Mumtaz Ali Khan,
Bangalore

The Muslim community is as much opposed to terrorism as any other community. So the fear that POTA is anti-minorities is misplaced.

N.P. Mishra,
Bangalore

An anti-terrorism law is a useful mechanism because it gives power to the security agencies to deal with terrorists more effectively. We need laws such as POTA because the provisions make it difficult for suspects and accused to get bail and hoodwink the authorities.

Varun Chhachhar,
New Delhi

It has been a nightmarish fortnight for India. Grenade attacks in Srinagar, blasts in Mumbai, and now a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh. It is time the Government took harsh steps to defeat terrorism. We must break some rules of our democracy, if necessary, in dealing with terrorists and ultras.

S. Bagawati Prasad,
Chennai

Mumbai was back to normal within 24 hours of the blasts but the police are clueless even after a week's time about the perpetrators' identity. It only speaks to the inefficiency of our intelligence agencies. The terrorists have definitely gained an upper hand and seem to be better equipped than our policemen.

Inamdar Ramchandra,
Bangalore
