``Fear of U.S. kept BJP silent on `mole' issue''
|
Party did not conduct an inquiry even though it knew of the issue
|
Ahmedabad:
Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Saturday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party kept silent on the `mole-in-the-PMO' issue when it was in power because it was afraid of displeasing the United States.
"The BJP was afraid of angering the U.S. and so did not conduct an inquiry into the matter when it was in power," Mr. Karat said, while addressing a gathering of party workers here. "Though the BJP came to power two terms after the Narasimha Rao Government, it did not set up an inquiry though Jaswant Singh knew about the presence of a U.S. mole in Mr. Rao's office," he said.
"They did not want to act against the Americans and so they did not bring up this issue when they were in power," he alleged. PTI
