HYDERABAD: Personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) averted what could have been a train accident on Wednesday when they chanced upon two persons who allegedly removed `pendrol clips' of the railway track between Safilguda and Ramakrishnapuram in the twin cities.

Removal of the pendrol clips, also known as elastic rail clips, could have caused derailment. Soon after learning that the arrested persons, N. Nagesh Chary, 37, and M. Sudarshana Chary, 33, had stolen the clips, the RPF officials cautioned the railway divisional control room about the possible derailment of trains passing by that track.

Train stopped

Passenger train no. 523, which was about to move on the route, was stopped at Malkajgiri.

The railway engineering staff rectified the track later, the South Central Railway Chief Security Commissioner B. Kamal Kumar said in a press release.

According to him, RPF head constable V. Sudheer Kumar and constable A. Yedukondalu intercepted the two accused persons while they were found carrying two gunny bags containing 89 pendrol clips near Moula Ali area.

When questioned, they confessed to have stolen the clips.
