Ernakulam in final

MANANTHAVADY: Ernakulam beat Kannur 2-0 to enter the boys' final of the State junior inter-district badminton championship at the Diana Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

The results:

Boys (semifinals):

Kozhikode bt Thiruvananthapuram 2-0 (Neeraj Rahman bt Anil Kishor 21-10, 21-19; Ram C. Vijay & Vishnu Prasad bt Anil Kishor & H.S. Prannoy 21-11, 21-4).

Ernakulam bt Kannur 2-0 (Shankar C. Gopan bt Manjush 21-14, 21-4; Shankar C. Gopan & Dileep T. Jacob bt Manjush & Shanu Santhosh 21-4, 21-9).

Quarterfinals: Ernakulam bt Kasaragod 2-0.

Girls:

(semifinals): Ernakulam bt Malappuram 2-0 (Megha Merrin Ninan bt Neethu Krishnan 21-4, 21-8; Megha Merrin Ninan & Sinimol bt Neethur Krishnan & Minumol 21-5, 21-7).

Sanjay, Shyama bag titles

Sanjay Sridhar and K. Shyama won the under-15 boys and girls titles, respectively, in the Talco Trophy all-Kerala children's chess tournament which concluded at the Kadavanthra, Kochi, on Sunday.

Final placings: Boys: under-15: 1. Sanjay S. Sridha, 8 pts), 2. Akhil Vishvanath (7), 3. G. Shankar (6.5).

Under-12: 1. S. Anand (6), 2. S. Abhinand (5.5), 3. Vaishak Vijay (5). Under-10: 1. George Aditya Paul (6), 2. M. Arjun (5.5), 3. Vivek Vijay (5). Under-8: 1. Shyam Shankar (5), 2. Paulose Paul Vadassery (4), 3. Hrishikesh S. Kini (4).

Girls: under-15: 1. K. Shyama (6), 2. Thahreem Fathima (5.5), 3. Radhika P.V. (5).
