Delhi Speaker greets Capital's citizens

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh has greeted the Capital's citizens on the occasion of Independence Day and appealed to them to hoist the National Tricolour and illuminate their homes on Tuesday.

Speaking after pressing the electric button to illuminate the Old Secretariat building here on Monday, Mr. Singh urged the Capital's residents to preserve the values of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the liberation of the country from British rule.

"Follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi"

NEW DELHI: Independence Day was celebrated at a function organised at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Monday. The function was jointly organised by the Centre and various Indian friendship societies, associations and clubs.

Former Union Minister Buta Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, asked people to follow the ideals and vision of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Centre's director Sergey P. Vanuykov said Russian-Indian bilateral cooperation promotes the creation of solid foundation of friendship and common understanding for the benefit of the people of the two nations.

Conference on tourism

NEW DELHI: The Institute of Marketing and Management organised its 37th Anniversary Conference here on Monday. The conclave on the topic, "Dream Tourism -- Green Tourism", highlighted the booming future of India's tourism industry and discussed ways to promote it.

Experts stressed the need to develop more sustainable forms of tourism with a more focused approach to attract more tourists, domestically as well as internationally.

Painting exhibition

NEW DELHI: A colourful painting exhibition by children was inaugurated at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here on Monday. Forty paintings out of 73 prize entries done by students of 20 educational institutions from Delhi and neighbouring towns were displayed. The exhibition will continue up to Wednesday as part of Independence Day celebrations by Nehru Bal Samiti.

A competition of folk dances was also held on the occasion. Sumermal Jain Public School of Janakpuri and Salwan Public School of Gurgaon were adjudged first prize winners.

CS results on Aug. 25

NEW DELHI: The results of the Company Secretaries (CS) examination held last June would be declared on August 25, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) said on Monday.

It would also be available on the Institute's website www.icsi.edu, ICSI spokesperson said.

As many as 1.5 lakh students had taken the test, she informed.
