Corrections and Clarifications

Due to a technical error, in some copies of the Chennai city edition (August 25, 2006, page 1), the lead heading "12 detained by Dutch authorities to be freed" appeared wrongly with the figure 2. The report was on how the Dutch authorities were to release all the 12 passengers arrested on a United States' Northwest Airlines plane bound for Mumbai on Wednesday.

A few readers have pointed out that while the text of "Pluto is no more a planet" (August 25, 2006, page 1) said that the movement in support of downgrading Pluto gained ground after the discovery of an object beyond Pluto's orbit called 2003UB313, the accompanying graphic ("The changing view of our solar system") denoted the object as "3003UB313". The error was in the graphic.

Referring to the report "Ostosclerosis: women at greater risk" (Chennai city, August 23, 2006, page 3), which was on a condition of the middle ear, a reader wondered whether the spelling was right. (It was also spelt as "ostosclerosis" in the text.) It was a reporting error. The Hindu Welfare Centre clarifies that it should have been "Otosclerosis".

The clarification ("Corrections and Clarifications", August 25, 2006) that Bismillah Khan rendered shehnai pieces for the Kannada film "Sanaadi Appanna" makes a reader ask, why are you looking for Kannada in a Telugu film? The first film was "Sanaadi Appanna" in Kannada starring Raj Kumar. It was remade in Telugu as "Sannayi Appanna" (the correction related to this name in the news report) featuring Shobhan Babu.

It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
