Congress MP pitches for Telangana

Special Correspondent

Statehood sentiment `strong,' says Yaskhi Goud

HYDERABAD: Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yaskhi Goud has said that his party colleagues from Telangana had apprised AICC chief Sonia Gandhi that the Telangana sentiment was `very strong.'

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said the party MPs from Telangana, in an interaction with Ms. Gandhi after the resignation of TRS Ministers from the Union Cabinet, had categorically stated that the party could ill-afford to keep the issue pending for long.

"The sentiment is very strong and the identity of Telangana has to be protected," he said and hastened to add that development alone was not the only answer to keep the demand for a separate State pending.

The MPs also told UPA sub-committee chairman Pranab Mukherjee that the Congress should take a serious view of the people's aspirations for the separate State.

He claimed that Ms. Sonia Gandhi had stated that Telangana was not a closed chapter.
