COIMBATORE: Each flourish on the canvas has a story behind it - one of extreme precision.

The care taken in holding the brush in the right way, its length and the accurate amount of paint add value to a painting.

The method of creating a flawless piece of art did appeal to students who attended a workshop on painting at Dr. N.G.P Arts and Science College here on Thursday.

Orientation course

More of an orientation course, where the participants were given expert guidance on the technicalities of painting, the two-day programme attracted students from various disciplines.

It was hosted by the Department of Costume Design and Fashion.

Mixing colours

"Each person has a different way of mixing colours," said Rama Rajesh, resource person. Pot painting, glass and fabric painting and nail painting were some of the features of the workshop.

Scope

"Nowadays, people don't mind investing in art. They have started believing in adding charm to their households with paintings.

This trend has increased the scope for those want to choose painting as a career," Ms. Rama said.

The workshop was an opportunity for students to learn the basics of artwork, the resource person said.

"Such workshops if organised every weekend will be a wonderful break from our hectic schedule in class," said Prasad, a student of Food and Nutrition.

"New techniques are experimented with and the students are allowed to be as imaginative as possible with the mix of colours," said Barani Andal, head of the Department of Costume Design and Fashion.

The participants will exhibit their works in the college on Friday.
