Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Taxi Owners' Welfare Association (VTOWA) has demanded that the Government withdraw any move to collect `green tax' from owners of transport vehicles aged above seven years. It asserts that the new tax will impose an extra, unbearable burden on the already suffering taxi owners. N. Chandrasekhar, vice-president, VTOWA, in a press release on Thursday said that vehicle owners were paying 9 per cent towards life tax and nearly Rs. 460-crore revenue was being generated for the Government with six lakh new vehicles coming on the road every year. The Government had estimated that if life tax would be further increased by 1 per cent, it would get additional revenue of Rs. 85 crores.
