VIJAYAWADA: Techno talk is the in thing. So are the technology-driven gizmo freaks. Ensnaring this vast section with a mind-boggling range of the latest gadgets in the market is the exhibition-cum-sale at Seshasai Kalyana Mandapam. The city-based Ikon Krishna Electronics joined hands with Supremo Trade Fair, a shopping mall, to create a one-shop stop for city-dwellers who are obsessed with thinking out of the box to add that zing to their lifestyle. Television sets, refrigerators, DVD players, washing machines, micro ovens, sewing machines, audio systems, textiles, herbal medicines, knowledge corner for kids (CDs on nursery rhymes, fables of India, bed time stories and moral stories), dress material, vacuum cleaners, door mats, gift pieces, fat-reducing vibrating massage belts, ladies' collection of stylish footwear, imported chocolates, Korean bags, zodiac power rings, supari and much more vie for attention at the week-long expo which unfolded on Thursday.
A touch of glam
Flashing that familiar grin, Bollywood actress Kajol in the huge poster sits pretty on the double-door refrigerator inviting visitors to the super cool world of Whirlpool. Kajol's vivacious smile is as inviting as the classic range of Whirlpool home appliances on display. "The event is about familiarising people here with technology that allows the users complete compatibility, mobility and lifestyle that the younger lot craves for. The need to bring home the latest gadgets has hit this generation like never before. The convenience of multi-tasking gizmos is what today's fast paced life style demands," says Nagarjuna Vasireddi of Krishna Electronics.
Truly global
There are over 100 stalls put up by vendors who descended on the city from all corners of the country besides other nations like Kenya, Korea and Pakistan. "It mainly serves the purpose of brand promotion. Many locals are not aware that some of the latest gadgets available in metros have found their way into the city also. The expo is to announce to the world about the new additions like the Tata Sky satellite television which is now available here," says Mr. Vasireddi who has occupied nearly 35 stalls at the exhibition. A youngster, Queen, has come all the way from Nairobi to showcase a mesmerising collection of skilfully crafted curios made with wood, banana fibre and soft stone. Amrik Singh of Mumbai has carted in loads of attractive dress material and Punjabi suits. "This is my first visit to this city and I look forward to a fruitful trip," he says. While living life in the fast lane, one can't afford to keep away from certain obsessions that leave a lasting impact. Hoping that the most-chanted `if you got it, flaunt it' mantra will work in their favour, the stall-owners are keeping their fingers crossed.
