Maldives judicial delegation calls on Bhardwaj

New Delhi: A judicial delegation from Maldives, led by Chief Justice Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim, called on the Law Minister H.R. Bhardwaj here on Thursday.

The team is on a five-day visit to acquaint itself with the judicial system in India. Besides the Chief Justice, other members of the delegation were, Justice Ali Hameed Mohamed and Justice Abdul Ghani Mohamed, Judges, High Court of Maldives and Ibrahim Sabir, Assistant Executive Director of the Maldives High Court.

The delegation evinced a keen interest in the Indian judicial system.

Multi-tier judiciary

Mr. Bhardwaj briefed them on the working of the multi-tier judiciary in India and the dispensation of justice at different levels.

The Maldivian judges were keen on the arbitration law in India, which they want to adopt in their jurisprudence.

The Chief Justice of the Maldives said his country was in the process of setting up the Supreme Court of Maldives.

Mr. Bhardwaj assured him of India's full help in training judicial officials in Maldives.
