Seminar on aluminium diecasting in Chennai

Staff Reporter

It will spread awareness about technical and marketing potential of aluminium diecasting

CHENNAI: The Aluminium Association of India is organising a two-day seminar on Aluminium Diecasting at the Chennai Trade Centre on September 28 and 29 to spread awareness about both the technical and marketing potential of aluminium diecasting.

About 400 to 500 delegates are expected to attend the seminar, which is primarily targeting the growing automobile industry. ALU 2006, an international exhibition on aluminium diecasting technology, equipment and supplies will be held at the same time. The aluminium alloy wheel is just the best known example of the automobile industry's shift from iron and steel to aluminium.

The trend means that the aluminium diecasting industry needs to gear up to expand production in a big way, especially in Chennai, which is an auto-manufacturing hub. If auto manufacturers start using just one kilogram more of aluminium per vehicle, that means a surge of one lakh tonnes in demand, said H. Sundara Murthy, conference convener.
